Digital Salon aims to connect regionally based Digital Media makers…. and part of the plan is to connect people not only in the same town, but also across regions.
If you are regionally based, then you probably already have experience using the internet to find out what’s going on elsewhere in the world, visiting web sites, watching you tube, or even publishing your own site.
Do you have any experience using webinars or live conferencing, such as skype, to chat to people in other places? What has been your experience using this technology? We would like to hear about how you are using skype or other conferencing tools to collaborate or share work online.
The technological changes in the last decade have transformed the way that people communicate – let’s face it, where would you be without your mobile phone and email. Can you imagine the way your school or workplace could change, with new steps in communication and collaboration?
We are all used to the conventions of “face to face” meetings and events. Possibly you are part of a group who meet regularly and you are used to the formats that apply, as a convention, to this meeting. For example, you may have a chairperson, and an agenda, and a set meeting time. Consider whether the change to a digital model of meeting can change this format, for example, the use of web forums (where people might post asynchronously to discuss a topic, with moderator support) or the use of online surveys and polls (to make decisions) could change the ways that decisions are considered and made.
If you have made the transition from traditional schooling or study, to “flexible course delivery” you will have some experience in other ways that digital delivery of communication can change aspects of traditional formats. Our society could be said to be in a transition stage, where our technologies are evolving to suit our needs, and our society is evolving to suit the new capabilities offered by our technology.
Digital Salon explores some of these new technologies by testing out possible avenues for cross regional collaboration. We will be experimenting with live presentation and alternative methods for presenting and experiencing events. Our pilot events in Barossa and Renmark will be announced shortly, with information on how to attend in person or “remotely”.
Dates will be announced here soon.
